Chukha is a hot and wet region located in the dense subtropical forests in Southwestern Bhutan. The region is home to many important plant and animal species. Unless they are making an overload crossing to or from India, most western travelers tend to give Chukha district a wide berth. For those who insist on taking the land route, the district effectively consists of the winding road that drops from the mountains through the lush tropical foothills of southern Bhutan to Phuentsholing, a boom town on the international border, Jaigon, its twin settlement, is on the other side. In 2005, it had a population of 2,855 (2005 census).
Kharbandi Temple
It was built in 1967 by the late Royal Great Grand Mother Ashi Phuntsho Choden, who had a winter residence here. Inside there are statues of Sakyamuni, the Zhabdrung, and Guru Rinpoche and outside surrounding covered with different kinds of stupas.
Zangto Pelri
Zangto Pelri Lhakhang is a small temple located in Phuentsholing, Bhutan. Built in the 1990’s by Dasho Aku Trongmi, the lyricist of Bhutan’s national anthem, it is a replica of the celestial abode of the revered Guru Rinpoche.
