Trashigang is the heart of eastern Bhutan, skirting up to the edge of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the country’s largest district, with an altitude ranging from 600 m to over 4000 m and was once the centre of important trade with Tibet.
Trashigang Dzong
It was built in 1667 by Mingyur Tenpa, Bhutan’s Third Druk Desi. The entire eastern region was governed from this dzong from the late 17th century until the beginning of the 20th century. At present place for district monk body known as Rabdey.
Rangjung Monastery
Above the Rangjung town is the Rangjung Woesel Choling Monastery, a large Nyingma monastery founded in 1990 by Garab Rinpoche. The whole style of structures looks like Tibetan Buddhist Temple.
Merak and Sakteng
From Phongme, a trail leads east to the remote minority village of Merak and Sakteng, which are inhabited by seminomadic tribesmen called Brokpa. There is trekking route which allow for the tourist, which take 3 days duration.
